Difficulty finding fonts was a major pain point, caused by a long list and no way to preview pro fonts.
Improving text editing and color customization was a key opportunity to boost core user engagement.
Data showed that users who personalized text (e.g., changed fonts) were much more likely to save and export their designs.
Highlighting pro fonts during the onboarding tutorial can drive higher subscription conversion rates.
By simplifying text customization and highlighting the value of pro fonts, we expect to see positive user feedback, higher subscription rates, and more frequent text edits.
01
A Quicker Way to Discover Fonts
To improve font customization engagement, I made the font picker easier to access and introduced a recommended fonts section. Working within the fixed-height toolbar was a challenge.
After testing several layout options, I grouped font styles (like thin, bold, and italic) under each typeface to shorten the font list and make browsing faster. This kept the experience simple and avoided adding extra navigation steps.

Text Editor Color Chips
Color features have some of the highest engagement rates in the text editor. To make color selection more direct and intuitive, we introduced a minimal set of color chips. Choosing the right number and range of colors was critical: colors needed to be evenly distributed across the spectrum and easily distinguishable, including for users with color vision deficiencies.
Since the applied color appears directly in the text editor, maintaining text readability was a key priority. To ensure high contrast, I created a guideline for automatically adjusting the editor’s background color when the contrast between text and background fell below a set threshold.
